|

Listening to Neighbor from the TLA last September.......an old school kick ass GLOCK Strangefolk song, and all I'm noticing is DON SCOTT!!!! Does anyone else agree that, as much as Patchen's great, Don Scott is the best thing that could have happened to this band??? He adds soooo much to soooo many songs - all tastefully, without overpowering anyone, with such enthusiasm.......... I love his 'piano' sound the most.......It's just so 'pretty' for lack of a better word. The organy/electric keyboardy stuff is cool too, but I just love the piano sound. There are so many songs where I get so caught up with listening to him. The only time I've ever enjoyed a keyboardist so much was when Hornsby played with the Dead. If you were fortunate enough to see them together, you saw how Jerry & Bruce played sooo well off each other, and just seemed so genuinely happy to be jammin' together - and that's the vibe I get off of Don & Jon.
Strangefolk kicks ass!! I'm getting butterflys in my stomach RIGHT NOW thinking of how psyched I'm gonna be next weekend to be seeing these guys again, in the company of all you wonderful Strangers!!!!!
I love this band!!!!! |

First off I am really curious to see how long it takes for Mel to respond to this post.....But Laurie hit the nail right on the head Don Scott does really kick ass and I too really enjoy the piano sound the most from him. I got so excitied this summer when I heard that Don was interested in renting a Baby Grand Piano for Eden.....It didn't work out last year but I have faith that some day soon we will get to see Mr. Scott rockin' out on a Baby Grand...... What songs do you think have really improved since Don Scott has joined the band? I'll start with Lost My Way(which I really hope we get in VT.) and Cabin John-I have always loved the slow part in the middle but he has turned it into something Really incredible....Man all this talk is getting me all fired up for next week _________________ N,N-diethyl-D-lysergamide |

Yes - Yes - Yes - Yes - Yes! As for Jeremy's question, i think Don has added so much to ALL of the songs, but 'I Wish' is just out of control with Don. And 'In Deep' - YEAH! I think that Don's biggest influence is that he seems to make everyone on stage step it up a notch. He's like a Larry Bird or Magic Johnson, he makes everyone around him a better player.
Peace, Donald
PS: Keegan was saying bad things to me and Melanie at Philly! He must pay for his remarks! Right Mel? HeHe |

| Right on Laurie, Hornsby rocked with the Dead. Jerry had that kind of chemistry with PigPen too. They would just watch each other and go off into the zone together. |

Speaking of "In Deep"......I think it's a really sick tune and lately has made it's way to strangefolk "epic tune" proportions. One of their live hits. But does anyone else agree that it could do without the Little Richard style, high-pitched "Whooooo" that patchen throws in after each stanza of the chorus?
Cotton club version with horns is sickness.....I think the folk sound so good with those horns. And those guys are sick brass players, sound alot more ....I don't know...."experienced"(?) than times I have heard members of Addison Groove join the band. I think AGP are a fantastic band, but those cotton club tunes are HUGE!! Maybe it's just a sign of where sf has gotten to as a band. |

Absolutely! The horns from the NYE show are incredible! Right after the siiiickest 'In Deep' evah, Jon says "these guy are the shits." Or something to that effect. |

I'll have to agree that In Deep has hit some sort of epic proportion... damn do I love that song...
I happen to like the woohoo's though, but it seems like Patchen hasn't been doing them as much now like he was last summer (listen to 8-8-02, they're all over the place)
And yes, Don Scott is the man. It really seems like you couldn't have found a more perfect fit. _________________ http://phishhook.com/lists/bigmike |

I was listening to a show (which one, beats me, but it was good) and I happened to notice that Pawn was jaw-dropping good during the jam, and it was Don Scott. It made me think of this post and I don't think anyone mentioned Pawn, so I am. Don Scott kicks some serious ass! Pawn got turned up several notches when Don came into the picture!! ]
